The Macro Hike

Camp along Otter Creek on the first night.

View from camp.

Nothing like a refreshing creek crossing first thing in the morning to wake one up!

Views along Otter Creek.

Bogs of Moore Run.

The Micro Hike

Bee Balm, (Monarda didyma).

Lesser Purple-Fringed Orchid, (Habenaria psycodes).

Marasmius Spp grows on well-decayed wood like this old stump.

Wild (Smooth) Hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens). The place was thick with these.

A Wood Frog invaded our camp on the second night ... or we invaded his home.

The Rhododendron was just coming out.

A distressed Polyphemus Moth (Antheraea polyphemus) was caught under a branch on the trail.

Dewberry (Rubus hispidus) forms dense mats in damp areas.

We spotted a few of these St. Johnswort on our return along the Mylius Trail. Possibly Mountain St. Johnswort (Hypericum graveolens).

Two tree fossils on the same rock!

A dense field of hay-scented fern fills the air with its sweet, fresh scent.
